What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness that we may slip in and out of several times a day. It could be when we are driving, reading a book or as we are drifting off to sleep each night. Usually the trance like state associated with hypnosis occurs when we are transfixed into carrying out our daily routines that we are accustomed to doing, the subconscious brain takes over and we may have no recollection of actually doing it. Our brain activity lessens when we are in this natural state of mind unless something out of the ordinary should happen that requires our full attention. We would then come out of the trance and become fully alert. This would be the same for hypnosis.
You are always in control and you can easily come out of the meditative like state whenever you want to. Usually the body will be so deeply relaxed that you may not want to!
Hypnosis will begin with an induction to get you into that relaxed state, sometimes mentally going through all of the body and relaxing each part. Afterwards you will feel refreshed, like you have had a power nap, being able to recall everything that was said. You will not do anything that you do not want to do.
